Expansion

The new building addition is now open for buisness!

After several years of work and countless hours of planning and volunteer work, apparatus and personell have officially moved into the new addition!

News and Updates

The east face of the complex. Two new bays, a first and second floor office, and the dormers for the new second floor training and meeting hall, and the driveway to Route 79.

West face of the addition.  Other side of the truck bay, new main pedestrian entrance, and stairwell to second floor hall and offices.

South face of the addition including the basement garage bays and new lower parking lot next to the red house.

The North Madison Volunteer Fire Company’s building addition project has been completed! Our first due attack engine and our new heavy rescue truck are housed in the two ground level drivethrough bays.  These are our two first-out apparatus and they now have direct access to Route 79. The drivethrough bays have eliminated the dangerous job of backing the truck in to the older small bays. Our utility truck, rescue boat, and antique truck are parked in the two basement bays. The new “watchroom” was a much needed upgrade from our previous office which was about the size of a closet.  We have gained a meeting space and work area upstairs and several new storage spaces downstairs.

The project was in the planning stages for two and one half years. A needs analysis was done by the line officers of the company. Upon completion of this analysis, the building committee worked closely with local architect John Mathews to create working plans for the addition.  The plans were put out to bid and a contract was signed on July 25, 2003 with Hawley Construction Company.

The building was being financed entirely by the NMVFC and the community it serves.  Out of a projected budget of $1.3 Million, we set and reached a community fund raising goal of over $250,000.  Service groups in town as well as individuals in the community were the primary contributors. The NMVFC has assumed the responsibility of financing the rest of the project.

The Fire Company assumed responsibility for site preparation which was a substantial savings. The members of the Company have donated their own time and personal equipment to remove trees and stumps and spread fill. Several local businesses have also donated their time and equipment to assist with site preparation.

The financing of this project did not use any tax dollars from the town.  The project was funded 100% by the company with the continued support of the surrounding community. This project would not have been possible without that generous show of support.  Our motto of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” really shines here.  Just as we are dedicated to serving the community, that same community responded by generously supporting this project which has proved to be a substantial benefit to us all.

The official ground breaking event on August 19, 2003 brought members of the Company, town leaders, contractors, and the news media to North Madison to celebrate the start of construction. Ironically enough, the celebration was cut short when the pagers and siren sounded for an emergency call.

Now, as of May 2005, the project is complete.  Some minor details are still in the works, such as paving the driveway and constructing cabinets; but the building is operational and in use now.

The North Madison Volunteer Fire Company thanks all the citizens, buisnesses, and civic organizations who are making this project possible!
