Madison Rotary Club Helps Fund Building Expansion

Madison Rotary Club Chooses North Madison Volunteer Fire Company for it’s 100th Anniversary Project.

Richard Benson, of the Madison Rotary Club announced that in honor of it’s upcoming 100th anniversary, the Club would be making a special donation to a local civic or nonprofit. Out of the 30 or so applications the Club received for this project, the North Madison Volunteer Fire Company (NMVFC) building expansion project was chosen. The value of the project is estimated to be between $18,000 and $20,000.

The NMVFC is in the process of raising funds to build out a 1.1 million dollar expansion of it’s fire department headquarters building located at the intersections of Durham Road and Opening Hill. The NMVFC plans to fund the project entirely through fund raising, and normal income during a time of stressed town budgets.

President [former] Eric Alletzhauser states that during the past 70 years, the NMVFC has solely owned it’s building and grounds with no direct funding from tax dollars, saving Madison’s tax payers close to $100,000 per year. In fact the current building, occupied in 1970, was built by company members and through donations from local residents.

Chief [former] Buck Taylor states that with more residents making up the North Madison fire district, as well as increasing emergency responses for more diverse types of emergencies, an expansion was inevitably needed to house the growing inventory of equipment needed to mitigate today’s emergencies.

Building Expansion Chairperson, Dick Regan, announced that the Rotary Club will sponsor the watch room, where radio equipment and reporting occurs on a daily basis. This room is essentially the control tower of the fire department. In honor of the Rotary Club’s contributions, the room will be memorialized to the Rotary Club with a plaque.
